On Being an Ally
I am enjoying following literary rabbit trails and making surprising cognitive connections this week. One of the articles on my reading list gets at some tough truths. It recommends that we stop trying to manage our interactions for our own ends and become an ally in the causes of others. I want to share it with you for two reasons: first, it is a personal reminder to practice humility in the face of diversity. Second, it is a well-written piece that is worth a wider readership.
I am not exempt from the “sin” of ignorance, sometimes willfully pursued, sometimes not. What follows calls me to admit my inadequacies and to humbly accept the position of being an ally to those who experience lives very different from my own.
